• Philosophy

  Regarding our products for your particular project. Design Synthesis is an architectural mill offering complete design/build services. Our products include, but are not limited to windows and glazing, doors, cabinets, furniture, and trim work. Design Synthesis was established in 1975 and since then we have expanded our services to include the following:

• Windows

  Design Synthesis designs and manufactures a variety of fenestration systems including wood, stainless steel, bronze, aluminum, aluminum and bronze clad wood systems. Our wood windows and frames are fashioned from various hardwoods or softwoods to suit the needs of the architecture in natural, stain grade, or paint grade finishes.  We regularly design and fabricate windows in teak, mahogany and rift white oak as well as exotic re-sawn veneers, and also combine different woods or aluminum cladding for an anodized or paint grade exterior and natural wood finish interior.Windows are generally shop primed prior to delivery.; Metal clad exteriors are also available in paint, bronze, stainless steel or copper. We manufacture casement, awning, sliding, true divided light windows, and arch divided light windows.  Generally glazing is included and is done in the shop whenever possible.  Site glazing of oversized, mitered or butt glazed conditions is also available.  We regularly design and fabricate stucco details, casings, brick molding or extrusions to meet special needs or milling requirements. In addition, we provide full wall glazing and offer moving glazed walls and motorized window operations.

• Doors

  Doors are also provided in a variety of materials as listed above. We include frames, stops, moldings, casings and weather-strips.  We will bid doors throughout the building, including metal utility doors, custom veneer doors, standard veneer doors, or paint grade doors; In addition, we design and build unique french, solid panel, architectural veneer, divided light, and unique metal, metal clad or wood entry doors. We are capable of designing and coordinating hardware for standard or any oversize or unique operating doors, including motorized automatic or power assisted operation. If requested, a bid will be offered to provide door hardware, set frames, hang doors and install door hardware. We also build interior and exterior sliding pockets, interior and exterior bypassing doors and interior and exterior bi-folding doors.A complete set of shop drawings, including all details elevations and unit sizes, is provided to the site to assist installers and the site supervisor.

• Cabinets

  Our cabinetry is furniture quality with traditional or contemporary European styling, finished laminated interiors, and European specialty hardware.  Hardwood, architectural veneers, laminate and polyester finishes are available.  Unless requested otherwise, Design Synthesis will stain, finish, deliver and install its own cabinetry. We are capable of designing cabinet details (moldings, handles, panel doors etc.) which enhance the architecture.We design and build free-standing and built-in pieces such as dining tables, buffets, stereo and TV cabinets, storage cabinets, wall units, libraries, reception desks, credenzas, conference tables and patio furniture.  Exotic and sequence matched architectural veneers are purchased regularly.  In addition, we coordinate custom metalwork, stone tops and counters, mirror and glass.

• Miscellaneous

  In addition, Design Synthesis can provide the design, finish and installation of miscellaneous woodwork including baseboard, wall paneling, coffered ceilings, wood beams and grills, stairs and handrails.

• Design

  Design is very important to us and we work hard to see that the designs of the architectural furniture; (doors, windows, and cabinetry) work together to create an integral statement complimenting to the architecture, whether contemporary or traditional.

  Because the work we do is custom, shop drawings and job paperwork become an integral part of each job. Prior to construction, a manual of millwork showing typical details, critical dimensions, and special instruction is provided to the site supervisor for his approval. Corrections, if needed, are made and then construction begins. I will provide samples of shop drawings upon your request. In the past several years our contacts have expanded to include projects in San Diego County, Los Angeles region, Palm Springs, Monterey Peninsula, Hawaii, Montana, Arizona and Nevada.
